SAFETY FIRST: Do not attempt electrical repairs, remove power points or switches, or access anything you do not feel confident checking safely.

Before reporting a light or power point fault, please complete these basic checks:

  • Check whether the problem affects one light or power point, or several.
  • Check the switchboard for a tripped circuit breaker or safety switch.
  • For a light, check or replace the globe where it is safe and reasonably accessible to do so.
  • For a power point, try another appliance to establish whether the problem is the power point or your appliance.
  • If a particular appliance causes the safety switch to trip, unplug it and stop using it.

If there are sparks, a burning smell, exposed wiring, signs of overheating or an electric shock, stop using the affected area immediately and treat it as a potentially urgent electrical fault. Otherwise, report the problem through the Console Tenant App, explaining what is not working and the checks you have completed. If an electrician attends and the problem is caused by a tenant-owned appliance, blown globe or another tenant-responsibility issue, the tenant may be responsible for the call-out cost.
